Economic resilience in the district of Steinfurt

Chip supply bottlenecks, stagnating raw material flows, delayed production—the latest news makes it abundantly clear that supply chain resilience is no longer a topic for the future, but an urgent necessity. The once predictable world of global value networks is increasingly faltering. What used to seem self-evident – predictable orders and reliable deliveries – is now proving to be fragile and prone to disruption.

This became particularly apparent during the coronavirus pandemic, which challenged global supply chains in an unprecedented way. For many companies, therefore, addressing their own supply chain remains a key issue for the future. Requirements are increasing, as is complexity. Small and medium-sized enterprises in the Steinfurt district in particular are dependent on practical support in this area.

This is precisely where the WiReSt project – Economic Resilience in the Steinfurt District, carried out in collaboration with Münster University of Applied Sciences, came in. With concrete tools, tried-and-tested ideas, and targeted knowledge transfer, it focused on the topic of supply chain resilience. Because one thing is certain: a forward-looking and resilient supply chain strategy is indispensable – for individual companies as well as for entire economic regions.

The central message is: Resilient supply chains require timely precautions!

Those involved in the project are convinced that change always opens up new opportunities – and invite all companies to take the first step now.

The "WiReSt" project was funded as part of the Region gestalten program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction in cooperation with the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs, and Spatial Development.

Results

Resilience means not only mitigating risks, but above all recognizing opportunities early on and actively exploiting them. WiReSt's end products support companies and the entire ecosystem in finding the courage to take the first step and put sustainable strategies into practice. They combine scientific findings and practical experience in directly applicable tools. In this way, they provide guidance and open up new scope for action for a resilient and future-proof economy.
